A very peculiar hotel. Inside city center, and located in one of the nicest quarters of Turkey, Kültür mahallesi (Culture quarter) an upper middle class dwelling in Alsancak with a lot of food and dining options, design shops, luxury apartments, museums and a huge park etc. Hotel rooms are refurbished with a powerful sense and keen eye on detail. Very quality furniture. Mini freeze full of a variety of beverages, alhocolic and nonalcoholic. A nespresso machine gently accompanying you. Carefully thought details in the bathroom. Swiss Hotel Efes is an 'art hotel', full of art pieces most of which were originally commissioned to known artists of Turkey and from abroad, specifially to be exhibited in the hotel. SPA section is a marvel. Massage, sauna, hammam services and people are excellent. Fitness center is unequalled with the most modern machinery (countless treadmills and cutting-edge fitness machines) and spacious, vast rooms allocated to yoga, pilates et al. And as for food; woouw.. Serving with three different (or four) kitchens, Swiss Hotel Efes offers a splendid menu, each dish specifically crafted and designed for a high savouring mouth. The staff is very hospitable and smiling and very kind towards the guests. This was a very lively and warm experience you wouldn't expect from an otherwise 'cold, luxury hotel'. Somehow the hotel is imbued with spirit, colours, a feeling of 'the human' and an ample sense of generosity. This hotel, once established in the early modern years of Turkish republic has a special place in Turkish Republican cultural history. In the 60s and 70s it hosted great stars, film artists and singers who used to take place in venues in the nearby 'İzmir Fuarı' (now a huge in-city park named Culturepark) Their poses by the swimming pool were cult images of the rise of popular culture in Turkey. In addition to various ceramic art pieces, by several famous artists such as Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Jale Yılmabaşar, Seçkin Pirier, Şadi Çalık and others, you can also see the magazine photos of Turkish celebrities like Gönül Yazar, Zeki Müren, Ajda Pekkan, who once and for all put their mark in the history of the hotel. That is why Efes Hotel is maybe so very charming, it exhibits great works of sophisticated art but also has a unique place in the history of Turkish magazine and paparazzi culture. The famous façade associated with 60s boxed retro design, first drawn as blueprint by Paul Bonatz, then reworked by Fatih Uran, is a very much exemplary of the 60s in world architecture, where rationalism was making its way to a less rigid style, with a tinge of the great 'dolce vita' of the 60s. A warm and excellent experience. Cannot be missed!

Good, but standing in line for 20 min for check in and out is not exactly five star service.
